The Gorgasali monument against the background of the Metekhi temple, illuminated by floodlights at night, looks monumental, it turns out to be a very beautiful composition, I would advise you to visit it at this time.

Monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali — the monument was erected in honor of the king of Iberia Vakhtang I Gorgasali (c. 440-502), considered the founder of the city. It is installed on a rock above the Kura River near the Metekhi Temple. It was opened on April 25, 1967. The author is Georgian Soviet sculptor Elgizda Amashukeli, the architectural design was carried out by T. Kandelaki and D. Mordebadze. The sculpture depicts Vakhtang I Gorgasala in a welcoming pose, with his hand raised in the air, symbolizing the protection and unity of the Georgian people. It is made of bronze, mounted on a massive granite pedestal. The height of the monument is about 20 meters. Vakhtang Gorgasali is considered the founder and defender of Tbilisi, and his image embodies the courage, unity and spiritual strength of the Georgian people.

King Vakhtang I Gorgasal is the founder of Tbilisi, and his contribution to the formation of the city cannot be overestimated. The monument erected in his honor represents the figure of the king on a horse, looking forward, which symbolizes his leadership qualities, determination and strength. This monument embodies the spirit of the city and recalls its rich history.
