Two sculptures in the city center were installed simultaneously, in 2014. The monument to Magdeburg law, the "city scales" and this monument to the head of the city, Voight, were named after 1499. As a result, this monument is also a monument to Magdeburg law, which came to the city in 1499. It was according to this right that the head of the city, the mayor, the main official in cities based on Magdeburg law, became so called, gaining enormous real power in the city. And the man who became a poet, judging by the sculpture, is not at all confused by the position that has fallen on him. Although why did it fall down? Maybe he sought it and got it in a fierce struggle! Voight stands over a mock-up map of Minsk at that time and, deep in thought, reflects on the fate of the city (probably) and builds grandiose plans for its transformation. I'd like to think so.

Tourists usually gather at the bronze Monument in the Upper Town, going on excursions. I wouldn't mind taking a picture next to him. This sculpture is dedicated to the head of the magistrate, standing in front of a map with the main ensembles spread out at his feet, with the key to the city in one hand and the royal charter in the other. It is a kind of reminder of the events of 1499, when Minsk received Magdeburg rights. And with its acquisition, the inhabitants were finally able to build a town hall. Voight is standing in front of her now.

This monument is one of the most striking sights of the city and tells the story of an ancient custom of self-government. , History of the monument The monument was erected in 2007 in honor of the restoration of the historical appearance of Freedom Square, where the original City Hall was previously located. The author of the composition was the famous Belarusian sculptor Sergey Bezdelny. , Description of the sculpture The sculptural composition is a bronze statue of the mayor, Voight, holding the keys to the city in his hands. The image of the Minsk poet is recreated in such a way as to convey the atmosphere of the medieval period: the man is dressed in traditional clothes corresponding to the era of the XV–XVI centuries, wears a hat with a feather and looks solid and confident. ✅ The meaning of Voight 's figure Historically, the word "voit" meant the elected head of a community or a self-governing authority in the cities of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The keys symbolize the power over the city, the protection of its inhabitants and the management of public affairs. Thus, Voight's image embodies the democratic principles of self-government, independence and respect for the history of his people. ✅ Location and atmosphere around The monument is located directly in front of the restored City Hall, recreating the historical space of Freedom Square. Nearby is the famous fountain with figures of girls, emphasizing the historical flavor of the city center. This square has become a favorite walking spot for citizens and guests of the capital, especially in summer, when cultural events and fairs are held here. Today, the monument to the Minsk Soldier serves as a vivid reminder to residents and guests of Minsk of the rich historical memory and glorious traditions of self-government.
