The Yavuz Sultan Selim Mosque is located in one of the non-tourist areas of the city. The advantage of this location is the absence of a large number of visitors. We were here on a private tour. The mosque is named after Sultan Selim I, he was called the Terrible (Yavuz). Sultan Selim had a reputation as a ruthless ruler, easily dealt with those who were objectionable. The mosque was built in 1522. This is a functioning mosque.

This is a mosque built by Sultan Suleiman for his father Sultan Selim. In the courtyard there is a mausoleum of Sultan Selim and his wife, the mother of Suleiman Hawsa Sultan. This mosque is located on one of the seven hills of the old city and offers a beautiful view of the old city and the Golden Horn. Be sure to take a look at non-touristic Istanbul!
