Happy #lnternationalWomensDay from one of the most beautiful mosques of lstanbul which was gifted to istanbul by two Ottoman #QueenMother s; Sayife and Turhan Sultans. Although it took a really long time to finalize this project, the result is stunning! Beautiful tiles, #kalemişi (hand drawing), #calligraphy and geometrical shapes are some of the methods used to describe the beauty of the divine from two royal women’s perspectives! Stunning! 🧿🌷

The New Mosque (Yeni Camii) in the Eminönü area of Istanbul is one of the most recognizable and impressive mosques in the city, located in the heart of the historic peninsula, on Eminönü Square. Here is the detailed information about it: History: Start of construction: The construction of the New Mosque was started in 1597 by order of Sultan Mehmed III. Initially, it was supposed to be dedicated to his mother, Walida Sultan Safie. Difficulties and delays: The construction was fraught with numerous difficulties: lack of funds, change of sultans, political unrest and even natural disasters. The construction process dragged on for many decades. Completion: The mosque was finally completed and consecrated only in 1665 under Sultan Mehmed IV. Architectural heritage: The mosque was designed by the famous Ottoman architect Mustafa Agha. The new mosque is one of the last masterpieces of the classical Ottoman architectural style, although it already shows features that foreshadow future Baroque influences. Architecture and features: Location: Its majestic minarets and domes tower over the lively Eminenyu Square, next to the Egyptian Bazaar (Spice Market) and the Bosphorus embankment. Style: The mosque is made in the classical Ottoman style, but with some innovative elements. It is inspired by the architecture of the Suleymaniye Mosque, but has a more compact and rounded shape. Domes and semi-domes: The main dome of the mosque is supported by four massive columns, and on the east and west sides it is supported by two large semi-domes. All this creates a feeling of spaciousness and power. Minarets: Two slender minarets with balconies for muezzins, towering on the sides of the central part, are iconic elements of the mosque. Interior decoration: The interior of the New Mosque is striking in its beauty and detail. * Tiles: The main decoration consists of thousands of tiles from Iznik (ancient Nicaea) with exquisite patterns, mainly blue, green and white, with floral motifs. * Calligraphy: The walls are decorated with beautiful calligraphic inscriptions in Arabic, quoting verses of the Quran. * Stained glass: Large stained glass windows let in soft light, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Courtyard: The mosque has a large courtyard surrounded by an arcade where worshippers can rest and wait for prayer to begin. Meaning: Religious Center: The New Mosque is a functioning mosque and an important center of Islamic life in Istanbul. Daily prayers are held here, as well as special services on the occasion of religious holidays. Tourist attraction: It is one of the most visited mosques in Istanbul. Its architectural beauty, historical significance and picturesque location make it a must-have item in any tourist's program. The symbol of the Eminenyu area: The mosque is an integral part of the Eminenyu landscape, giving this vibrant area a special charm. Meeting place: Due to its central location, the square in front of the mosque is a popular meeting place and the starting point for many excursions.

The Yeni Camii (New Mosque) in Istanbul is a real gem of Ottoman architecture, and I'm still in awe of it! When you enter the high domes, you feel as if you are entering another dimension: soft light pours through the stained glass windows, the air is filled with the scent of incense, and the tile patterns on the walls shimmer like a mirage. At first, this 17th-century mosque seems more modest than Hagia Sophia, but its elegant minarets near the Bosphorus and courtyard with a fountain for ablutions create an atmosphere of tranquility and beauty. I came here at sunset, and the azan (call to prayer) had just begun — the muezzin's voice echoed over the sea, and people were gathering around. Even if you are not a Muslim, you can stand and enjoy the moment just by listening to this melody. Everything is clean, spacious, and fuss-free inside, although don't make any noise during prayers or take photos without asking. Tip: Arrive before closing (usually before sunset), and don't forget to take off your shoes before entering. If you're lucky, check out the nearby market — there's always fresh food nearby. Bottom line: this place is not for show, but for the soul. There are not many locations in Istanbul where you can feel the complete harmony of the past and the present. Be sure to check it out if you're in town — Yeni Camii won't disappoint!
