I will quote an excerpt from the archaeological museum: "Ancient Minsk was located near the confluence of the Nemiga and Svisloch rivers, on a small hill, where a detinets castle was built, surrounded by a moat and a high earthen rampart with wooden fortress walls. This part of Minsk was called the Castle. The castle served as a defensive structure to protect the southern borders Polotsk Principality, but gradually lost its military importance since the end of the XVI century. The last castle fortifications were destroyed in the early 19th century. In the 1950s, Castle Hill was demolished, and the soil was removed outside the city."
