This year we arrived in Istanbul at the height of Bayram. The entire city of sixteen million took to the streets to relax. Travel by public transport during the celebration is free for local residents.
The tram ride reminded me of a Soviet trolleybus during rush hour: the doors barely close, if you don't hold on to the handrails, you can get off at any stop with everyone. Even if he wasn't going to go out on it.
An interesting solution in terms of the organization of passenger transportation by tram. The tram stop is long. Entrance is through turnstiles. Payment is made at the entrance to the bus stop. Just like in our subway: I attached my card, paid, and entered. Driven. If you didn't get on the first tram that came up, you calmly wait for the next one. Because they go often. There is also an extremely unusual public transport for us - ferries. You can also use them simply by using a transport card. Ferries, by the way, reminded river (or island) trams in Sweden. But here they are much more. We saw two berths: Kabatash and Eminenyu.
We managed to take a ride in Marmaray. This is not an ordinary metro, part of it runs deep under the Bosphorus Strait. Since we were there for the first time, we asked the local taxi driver for directions. He replied in broken English, "down, down, down and down fo twenty minutes." Which meant, as we realized a little later, four escalators down. And, of course, with our speed, it wasn't 20 minutes, but more. We haven't tried to take the bus. But they are exactly the same as our white Mercedes cars many years ago in Kostroma. But we rode a black Mercedes, the inner roof of which was decorated with a starry sky. It was a private transfer car. He took us to the hotel from the airport and back to the airport a week later. Hopefully not for the last time. And, of course, I wish that to all of you.
