ncredibly powerful and symbolic. This sculpture captures the agony and resilience of the defenders in an unforgettable way. The facial expression, the outstretched hand—it speaks volumes without words. An essential stop when visiting the fortress.

The monument "Thirst" captures one of the tragedies during the turnaround of the fortress - the lack of water, as the water supply was damaged in the early days of the war. Many soldiers and commanders died trying to get the precious drops. After the war, pierced helmets, flasks, mugs and the remains of the dead were found on the banks of the rivers surrounding the fortress. The monument makes a strong impression.

The Thirst monument is one of the central sculptures of the memorial in the Brest Fortress. The 13-meter figure of a soldier sprawled on the ground leans on a machine gun and holds a helmet in his hand, trying to scoop water from the river. The monument is based on the feat of Foreman Vyacheslav Meyer, who managed to get water for his comrades and give it to the wounded before dying from an enemy bullet. With the beginning of the battles, the local water supply was destroyed, and the river was the only source of water that the defenders of the fortress, the wounded, and the civilian population needed. Any attempts to obtain water were brutally suppressed by enemy forces. The memorial complex in which the monument was erected was opened on September 25, 1971. Eternal memory!!!
