A good place to get acquainted with the nature of Abkhazia, with minerals, the history of the country, the painful independence, you can read and see a lot. The museum is five, the staff is two! The keeper of the halls followed us, turned off the lights in the past halls, mumbled to herself how she hates the second floor, moreover, almost an hour before closing, like we prevented her from leaving earlier, you can't treat visitors like that! And, reading the reviews, I agree, many of the exhibits are not signed.

A great place to explore the culture and history of the country.The museum's expositions will tell about the flora and fauna, ancient traditions of the deep, new history of Abkhazia. You will be able to get acquainted with the customs of the people. Entrance is paid, 200 rubles. We were lucky to get on the tour. The guide is Glad, this is a person who really loves his job. Her stories about everyday life and traditions of Abkhazia help tourists to learn a lot of interesting things.

It's more interesting with a guide, but the tour is quite fast, although it lasts about an hour. The signs on the ground floor are quite exhaustive, on the second floor I already want more explanations in some halls.

A positive point. There is a museum. It just exists and you can go to it to pass the time. There's nothing else to do there.
The negative point. The museum refused to give us a tour because there were only 2 of us. It was morning, 10 o'clock, we were walking and came to find out about Abkhazia. But no. They said wait, maybe some day a group will come by today, so that 10 people at least and then we are ready to work. Or were we just denied a tour?
And of course, the finale of everything was that it turns out that Russia prevents Abkhazia from living. I was told at school that Russia saved Georgia and Abkhazia from extermination. And in the museum, the information on the stand shows that the opposite is true. I quote from the stand: "... Since the XVI century, the three-hundred-year period of the Ottoman Empire's rule over the countries of the Black Sea region has begun. Abkhazia, after several unsuccessful battles with superior Turkish troops, finds itself vassalage to the Ottoman Empire. At the same time, however, Abkhazia maintained its statehood and full internal independence, and power was in the hands of the Chachba dynasty. This political situation continued until the middle of the XIX century, before the establishment of the rule of the Russian Empire in the Caucasus and the liquidation of the Abkhazian statehood."

We visited the museum today. And not for the first time. I really liked the wonderful girl, the guide tells me very interesting things. He answers the questions in a very detailed way. The tour, which usually takes 1 hour, took us two and a half hours. I wanted to listen and listen to this girl. I didn't remember the guide's name. It is strictly and obligatory to visit this place.

The museum itself is very pretty both externally and internally, and if you are lucky with a guide, you can learn a lot about the customs, culture, traditions and history of the country. The museum staff is not interested, they do not conduct excursions, there are practically none in the halls. It seems that they are not interested in the museum. There is something to compare it with, there were in the museums of Kazan and Samara, heaven and earth.

It is a wonderful place to learn about Abkhazia from not the most standard sources. A nice and well-maintained museum, but don't expect interactive metropolitan stuff. And the attention of the guides. They are simply not there. I went in, bought a ticket and walk freely, watch and read. And if you also got in on Saturday afternoon, then they can let you in first, and then after half an hour suddenly announce that it's a shortened day and everyone needs to leave early. Therefore, take a quick look and goodbye.

I would like to leave a good review and visit the museum, but, unfortunately, the staff of the ticket office does not work on schedule until 17:00 and at 16:57 they already close the ticket office with the words - do not argue and leave, the ticket office is closed. We were passing through, we didn't have time before. And the museum itself is open until 18:00.

A good museum and almost the only restored building in Sukhum (there is a sign outside that the restoration was carried out at the expense of the Russian Federation).
We went with a guide. According to their rules, a group of 10 people should gather, then the guide serves the group for free. There were 6 of us, we chipped in and bought 4 more tickets to take a guide.
Exhibits are presented on the history of those places from the oldest fossils, amonites to the materials of the 2008 war. Moreover, the topic of war is still very painful for Abkhazians and the guide talked about it for quite a long time.
We also learned about ancient settlements, costumes, and the Greek colonization of these lands.
There is an authentic dolmen in the courtyard of the museum.

The museum is normal, neat, cool, the staff is friendly, the guide was not taken, they did not recruit him. Although the staff themselves grumble at the management and complain about their fate. To complete the exposition, I would like to add information about the genocide of Georgians in 92_93 by the Abkhazians in the hall of modern history. But they will prefer to keep silent about this. And so I recommend visiting and I would still come myself.

According to the expositions, the museum is quite rich, I liked the sarcophagus similar to the Egyptian one, the marble slab with a plot pattern of Greek execution, in general, the Mediterranean exhibits are interesting. There are halls about the recent war, and this, of course, is difficult, but it is impossible to tear yourself away and not look - they are decorated with soul and as informative as possible.
The caretakers, who usually monitor the silence, gather in groups and talk continuously. It was in all the museums of Abkhazia, it is apparently an ineradicable tradition. I even got used to it already, but in the military hall.. These gossip-style conversations were very stressful.. They themselves seem to be calling for disrespect, such ticks, they would have moved to another hall, with canned fish or something... By the way, the fish collection is interesting, I haven't seen it anywhere else)

The museum is poor, there are few exhibits, to be honest. But everything is compensated by the energy of the guides! We came across a young girl, unfortunately I don't remember her name.How she tries to tell us everything and show us if possible! What pride was evident in her words when she described the customs and traditions of the Abkhazians to us!And when we went to the hall dedicated to the war with Georgia, we had tears in our eyes from her stories, not from pity, from empathy! I wanted to pick up a machine gun and go into battle! A very talented girl guide! We all really liked it!

The Abkhazian State Museum is a historical museum in Sukhumi. The museum has two branches - in Gulripsh and Gudauta districts of Abkhazia. More than 100 thousand items are stored in its storerooms - these are unique things made of ceramics, metal, fabrics, written documents, etc. The museum's funds contain historical and cultural monuments not only of the Abkhazian people, but also of other peoples of the Caucasus, ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Byzantium, Sasanian Iran, materials telling about the participation of the Abkhazian the people in the Great Patriotic War. I was also surprised that people go to the museum in flip-flops and shorts. This is not a c0rtir! You should try to enter the Hermitage like that! Because guests of Sukhum often write about this moment, I previously called the director of the museum and clarified whether this was really the case. I got the answer that yes, only with the group.
