Krushedol Monastery in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a convent of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The Krushedol Monastery was founded in the period from 1509 to 1516 by the family of the last Serbian despots of Brankovich, George Brankovich (Bishop Maxim) and his mother Angelina, with the financial assistance of the Vlas voivode Basarab and the Grand Duke of Moscow Vasily III. In 1670, the Krushedol monastery was home to the largest fraternity among all the monasteries on Frushka Gora: 90 monks and 12 elders. After the Battle of Petrovaradin in 1716, the retreating Turks looted and burned the monastery, along with the Brankovich relics, but by 1756 it had been restored. One of the monastery's treasures is its iconostasis of 36 15th–century icons. Valuable fragments of the wall painting have also been preserved. The monastery also houses a large library with ancient manuscripts and printed books. There are church books brought from Russia in 1651. The remains of important historical figures of Serbia are buried in Krusedol: the Brankovich dynasty, King Milan Obrenovich, Princess Lubica Obrenovich, and others. During the Second World War, the monastery was not burned down, but nevertheless it was looted and damaged. There is an apiary in the monastery. The nuns also dry herbs for various tea collections.
