This is probably the one and only theater that I would recommend in Tashkent to those who really appreciate theatrical art. Known for their avant garde plays and the constant need to bend social norms, the Ilkhom troop are truly outstanding. Most of the plays have subtitles so they can be enjoyed even by those who don’t speak Russian! Definitely a must visit if you’re in Tashkent and are feeling artsy!

A modern theater in Russian. Very many performances, almost daily. Often interesting methods are used and the crew is huge. The place is simple, but the contents is rich.

I love Ilkhom with all my heart. One of the few theaters where you want to come back again and again. "Ilkhom" is not just performances, but an honest dialogue with the audience. A minimum of pathos, maximum depth and real emotions. I recommend it to anyone who likes a smart and bold theater with its own atmosphere. We have been to many performances in this theater, we left happy, but this time "Lyudka" did not "catch on", something was missing.

Ilkhom is more than just a theater, it is a space of freedom and real "theatrical magic". From the very first minutes in the basement foyer, among the pipes and posters, you immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of the underground. The productions here are always bold, lively and thought-provoking, and the proximity of the actors to the audience blurs the boundaries between the stage and the audience. Every production is like a breath of fresh air. A must-visit for anyone who is looking for sincerity and meaning.

This is my first experience in an avant-garde theater, despite the fact that I am an avid theater-goer. Mixed feelings really. The theater itself is excellent and meets all the requirements for the theater. Live music is an absolute plus! Excellent acting, I can't say anything here, but the work left an indelible impression))) Who wrote this? And what kind of health is the question for me personally. In general, I advise you to visit those who are looking for something new, if you are used to the classical repertoire (even in a modern interpretation) I would not waste my time... I visit theaters in all the cities of my trip and I can say that I am "omnivorous", but this is the first ambiguous impression in my entire theatrical experience.

I've been going to performances for six months, but I've only gotten around to reviewing it now. If you are a tourist and want to learn more about Tashkent from different sides, go ahead. If you've just heard, but you're not sure if it's worth going to an independent theater, go ahead and make up your mind. I advise everyone who enjoyed the theater to go on a tour with X Place and Honored Artist Marina Turpishcheva. after her stories about the creation of the theater, about Mark Vail, their tours and the life of the theater, I want to go even more, support, reverently love and respect the theater and its history. I went to “Tartuffe” and “Happy beggars" several times — each time the scope of feelings and celebration of life. If in doubt, just go to one or another performance for impressions and experience, try different things and see what suits and gives emotions to you. I can't imagine my life in Tashkent without Ilkhom, thank you so much for having the opportunity to admire the theater and his life on stage.

I took my daughter to a master class. I haven't been to the play. I am very impressed with the surroundings of the theater itself. The original and very beautiful design of the hall. I just wanted to go to the play. And I will definitely go soon. About classes. I liked the teachers and their interaction with the children. It's a little hard, probably, for children to have 3 hours of classes, but they are fascinated.

I have been to performances at this theater twice during trips to Tashkent. I will say one thing - in Moscow it turns out to get to the theater less often than on vacation and in another country))) It's an old-school building with an equally old-school lobby, but with a completely classical theater audience. The troupe is working with the audience, everyone is doing great, creativity is blooming in this place. Highly recommend it!

Ilkhom Theater is the heart of creative Tashkent! I've been here several times, and each performance has left a deep mark. It's not just a theater, it's a place where you really feel the art. The performances are bold, sincere, touching to the core. The actors' acting is at the highest level, everything is real, with emotion, with soul. I especially like that there is no familiar stage here — it seems to merge with the auditorium. This creates a special bond between the artists and the audience. You're not just watching a play, you're inside what's happening, literally in the same breath as the actors. The interior is modest, but that's the whole magic — nothing superfluous, just art and atmosphere. Here you want to think, feel, come back again and again.

I liked the theater. Small, intimate. The lobby, the hall-as if "for their own". Yes, judging by the large companies sitting at the buffet tables, this is true. The theater has its own regular audience.. super! The play "Lubka" made an ambiguous impression. Well played. The actors played 100%. You should definitely visit the theater. The performance is controversial, but the impressions are definitely positive!

Special thanks to the team for the memory of the founder of the theater ... look for emotions, but something special and unusual is here for you ... a Russian-language theater, repertoire, productions, actors ... a hall ... a mini gallery in the theater lobby ... in a word, I recommend it! Top theater in Tashkent for people who reflect!

My favorite theater!!! When I come to Tashkent, I try to visit it first! I love the atmosphere, the high level of skill of the actors and the unusual interpretations of familiar works. The prices are more than pleasant - for the efforts that each employee has invested in this theater, even low. I advise everyone to visit this place at least once. Thank you for your hard work.

I am very pleased with visiting the Ilkhom Theater in Tashkent. The family went to the play "Son". The complex and difficult topic of the relationship between fathers and children has been raised. The performance reveals feelings at once literally from the first minutes and keeps you in suspense until the very end...

I was at the Ilkhom Theater for the first time on Kabala Svyatosh. An unusual creative non-classical reading of Bulgakov's play, where the characters and even the author himself come to life! The actors also play out the life of the Ilkhom theater itself in this production, which interestingly fits into the plot. The first overall feeling is positive. We will also visit this theater to learn more about the repertoire and the actors themselves.

A chic, powerful, modern theater without mothballs. Beautiful and spacious building. I was at the play "Tomorrow": the drama may not be the most outstanding, but it was staged with youthful enthusiasm. The dynamics, light, and sound were very pleasing. A pleasant aftertaste, the audience with bright faces. There's even a plywood ballet in Tashkent, and this is a very special place.

The Ilkhom Theater in Tashkent is a legendary point on the cultural map not only of Uzbekistan, but also of the entire Central Asia! Founded in 1976 by director Mark Weil, it has become a symbol of creative freedom and experimentation. Here, stereotypes are boldly broken, combining traditions and the avant—garde, and each production is a challenge to the usual perception of the theater. Why is it worth a visit? A unique repertoire: From modern drama to reinterpreted classics — performances make you think, laugh, cry. Famous works: "The Imperial Executioner", "The Seagull. Forever", "Don Juan". Experiment and improvisation: Ilkhom is famous for its author's approach — there are no rigid frameworks here, and the actors often interact with the audience. Atmosphere: A chamber-like space with an almost homely energy. The hall is small, so every spectator feels like a part of the action. International recognition: The theater tours the world, participates in festivals, and critics call its productions "a breath of fresh air." Practical: - Language: Most of the performances are in Russian, sometimes with elements of Uzbek. - Prices: Tickets are available (from about 50,000 soums / ~$4). - Where: Pahlavon Mahmud Street, Tashkent city center. - Tip: Book your seats in advance — the theater is popular with locals and tourists. If you appreciate non—standard art, you are ready for a dialogue with actors and directors - Ilkh is a must! This is not just a theater, but a living organism where magic is born. After the performance, you can discuss your impressions in the cozy cafe at the theater — the perfect ending to the evening. 👌 #Cultural Bridge #IlkhomLegenda #Tashkent Waiting

I went to this legendary theater every evening while I was in Tashkent. All the productions are different and interesting. The tragic fate of the theater's founder, Mark Weil, has made this space iconic. It is a small island of Russian culture with an Uzbek flavor.

Those who like "modern art" will like it) I was at two performances of "The Tortilla Flat Quarter" and the Cabal of Saints... the latter is just terrible. They messed up, crammed in so much extra stuff, as if the goal was to involve the whole team, so they made at least 3 Molières, what was the idea? In general, it's absurd) they praise dramas, maybe I'll go to something else popular.

We were at the Tartuffe play. Indeed, as the actor said at the beginning of the play, "Moliere was fucked up." We barely made it to the intermission and left. Such an untalented and vulgar production has never been seen. I didn't know that the mat on stage had suddenly become something funny and witty. Although the rest of the audience giggled merrily, they enjoyed this performance. I would like to see what I saw as soon as possible. Good luck to all

Once again, I went to the play, the topics that are touched upon are very relevant and democratic, they touch my soul, even tears come to my eyes, but the young actors had the feeling that there was no understanding of what they were playing, there was no deep understanding and sincerity, unfortunately it was obvious, there is room for growth. However, there are no questions about the plot, text and direction. Bravo, bravo, and bravo again, I'll take another look.

Ilkhom - always emotions! Ambiguous! From admiration to confusion! Productions without unnecessary entourage - the actors play in such a way that it is not necessary. Full immersion in the atmosphere and a sense of audience participation I'm looking forward to the opening of the 50th anniversary season.

We went to the "Nutcracker" with the children. The performance is for an amateur, it is interactive, involving the viewer, but due to the fact that there is only one actor, it is not very interesting, sometimes boring and monotonous. I will not recommend this performance. Although, the tastes are different. Someone's children may "come in".

The best theater in the world, I love it very much. They have been holding the brand for 30 years, despite fires, the death of the founder and financial difficulties. Be sure to visit the Tortilla Flat and Happy Beggars Quarter, productions have been going on for a quarter of a century without losing their relevance.

Visiting this institution as a separate kind of pleasure and masochism. The productions are brilliant, not always clear (to me), but in the process of understanding they are incredible. The repertoire, despite the age of some works, is very relevant. After the fire, the atmosphere is a little gloomy, of course, but it's still cozy.

In mid-October 2024, we were with my wife at the play "The Heart of a Dog". Not only did the performance start almost an hour late, but the production turned out to be so primitive and boring, sometimes awkward, that after 15 minutes I wanted to get up and leave. But upbringing did not allow this to be done. A complete disappointment. This is my second time in this theater. The last time was in the year 2008 under the former director. And it was an extravaganza! And now Ilkhom reminded me of a student theater with a half-educated director. I am very disappointed!

The legendary Tashkent Theater. Great productions. one of the first professional non-state theaters in the history of the former Soviet Union. It was founded in 1976 by director Mark Weil and a group of graduates of the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute. I recommend it! Only for adults. The number of seats is limited. Cozy and homey. It's great that there's at least one theater in the city that puts on modern productions, I've been there 3 times already and I liked it. The only disadvantage is that they don't let you into the so-called "underground" passage in front of the hall. After all, you really want to take characteristic photos, and the lobby is extremely boring for this.

The theater itself makes a good impression, but the staff consistently and methodically destroys this impression. the negative experience begins already at the ticket office, continues at the concierge and reaches its climax when checking tickets. complete disorganization, lack of basic coordination, and an openly dismissive tone create a sense of absurd dissonance: a cultural institution, and at the same time a service that seems stuck in the past. we came together with a friend with whom we look much younger than our real age (we are 20 years old), and against the background of an audience of mostly 30+, this, apparently, became a reason for a biased attitude. It seems that the staff are focused exclusively on the type of visitors they are used to and find it difficult to accept those who do not fit into the expected "academic" image. meanwhile, respectful and equal communication is the basic standard of service, not a privilege for a select audience. Unfortunately, it is precisely because of this attitude that there is no desire to recommend this theater to friends and acquaintances, despite its artistic potential.
