The name sounds like "the eldest wife". The mosque is named after Timur's beloved wife (Tamerlane), opposite the mosque across the street is her mausoleum (14th century), where her mother and three maids are buried. The mosque is currently undergoing renovation, so I hope it will appear in all its beauty very soon. In the center of the 1.3-hectare courtyard, a large ancient Koran lies on a stone stand behind glass.
