The biggest, most monumental mosque and Mausoleum af all in Ouzbékistan. However it is not well preserved. But definately another must see place in the country. The Bibi-Khanym Mosque (Uzbek: Bibixonim masjidi; Persian: مسجد بی بی خانم; also variously spelled as Khanum, Khanom, Hanum, Hanim) is one of the most important monuments of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. In the 15th century, it was one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in the Islamic world. It is considered a masterpiece of the Timurid Renaissance. By the mid-20th century, only a grandiose ruin of it still survived, but major parts of the mosque were restored during the Soviet period.

A Great historical moment but needs more coffee shops around it. Let the locals make more money and let the tourists cool down with a cup of cold beverage.

The most atmospheric location, entering the territory, as if you enter another world, there is a bazaar and a large stream of people outside, but here it is calm, beautiful and peaceful. The scale is amazing, it's hard to imagine how they built it a few hundred years ago!

The place is super touristy, it's worth a look, but there are a lot of people. It is better to choose a weekday evening. There is a place to walk with the whole family, there are many walking areas inside the complex. You can breathe in this culture and feel the spirit of the city here on the way to the mosque and inside the temple itself. A little further behind the mosque there is a wonderful city market: fruits, vegetables, spices, clothes, teas. The prices are reasonable and you can bargain. It's great to plan a route from the temple complex to the market. Travel and enjoy!))

It looks like a beautiful, pompous building, which is noticeable from different parts of the city, but inside it is not worth visiting: a small courtyard, an unrefined mosque and madrasah, 140,000 soums for two (1000 rubles). If you just look at the huge Koran in the glass in the courtyard. Take photos from the outside.

I stayed in a hotel next to this mosque and, of course, visited it. This mosque is now defunct, but a museum. The building is incredibly beautiful and impressive. One of the main historical buildings of Samarkand.

I got here in the evening when I arrived in Samarkand. I was very impressed. After that, Registan seemed small. A huge portal and giant domes that smell of antiquity. Birds swarm over the domes. I came here all the days when I was in Samarkand. I strongly advise you to go around the mosque closer to sunset.

A magnificent example of ancient architecture , the courtyard is very picturesque and green , there are not enough benches , endless paid entrances and guides (very weak , they don 't tell anything interesting , it 's more like grandmothers who only talk about their relatives ), for a second the price of a guide is 150,000 soums , plus an entrance of 75,000 per person . The condition of the facility is poor , there has been no repair since Soviet times , no restoration is underway , the facade is beautiful , there is an emergency condition around the corner , and everything inside is not being repaired , except for one pavilion .. But everything is paid , it 's depressing .

The main mosque of Samarkand, built at the peak of Timurid power. Since the beginning of the 15th century, it has been heavily destroyed, but restored. Inside, there are no mosaic ceilings, as in Gur Emir.

In my opinion, this is the most beautiful mosque we have ever seen. There is such a beauty inside that it simply takes your breath away. It is impossible to believe that the ceiling is flat, patterns and paintings create a 100% volumetric effect. A masterpiece!

The Mosque and Mausoleum are absolutely gigantic in scale, next to which you feel like a grain of sand. The complex has been renovated from the outside, there is not much to look at inside, except for a huge Koran. Nearby is the famous Siab Bazaar, where you can buy absolutely everything in the world.

The Bibi Khanum Mosque is one of the most majestic and beautiful places in Samarkand. The huge architectural complex impresses with its scale, carved portals, exquisite decoration and blue domes. The spirit of history and the greatness of the era of Amir Temur can be felt here. The mosque is ideal for tourists and for believers who want to pray in a special atmosphere. The territory is clean, well maintained and very beautiful, there are many convenient places to relax and take photos. In the evening, when the lights turn on, the mosque looks especially impressive. A great place to experience the rich cultural heritage of Samarkand and enjoy its historical beauty. We recommend you to visit!

The Bibi Khanum Mosque was erected by order of Tamerlane and became the largest mosque in Central Asia. Bibi Khanum means "the eldest princess". There are many legends about how this amazing mosque appeared. One of them says that Bibi Khanum was built by order of Amir Timur immediately after his return from India, where he won a victory and named after his beloved wife. According to another version, on the contrary, the mosque appeared thanks to Bibi Khanum herself, who decided to surprise and please her husband. When Tamerlane was absent on another campaign, she decided to build a mosque. Who knows the truth now? Whatever it is, the mosque is built and pleasing to the eye. After the construction of the Bibi Khanum Mosque, it became the largest mosque in Central Asia, accommodating over 10,000 pilgrims. The structure is a complex of four buildings — the entrance arch, the main mosque building and two small ones. The huge courtyard is surrounded by a gallery of arches and four minarets at the corners. In the 80s of the last century, the ensemble was in ruins. And what we see now is the merit of the architects.

The Bibi Khanum Temple was located in Samarkand. There is a market 50 meters away. There are many delicious fruits and dried fruits. And a lot more. I bought myself a skullcap there. The temple itself looks different in the afternoon and evening. Because the illumination turns on in the evening. And it looks Awesome in the photos!))) And there is a huge garden around all this beauty! The park!!! Where you can walk under the gentle sun))) In general, Samarkand is the greenest city in Uzbekistan. I have visited 5 cities of Uzbekistan, and if you asked which city you would move to live in Uzbekistan, then definitely Samarkand!))))

The Bibi Khanum Mosque is located inside a "real", "living" city - houses, people live here, cars drive. There is a bazaar nearby, which means that life is three times more active than usual. This distinguishes it, for example, from Registan, where everything is subordinated to monuments, all attention is paid to them. Here you are in the midst of the present, present, perishable world and suddenly you can touch the history of ancient Uzbekistan. The mosque was built under Tamerlane in the 15th century. "Bibi Khanum" means "the eldest princess." According to legend, Tamerlane's eldest wife wanted to give him a gift and, while he was away on a hike, build the most beautiful and majestic mosque in the world. But Tamerlane did not appreciate the efforts of his beloved - when he returned, he considered that the mosque's portal was not magnificent enough. True or not, when he returned from the campaign, he actually executed a high-ranking "foreman" and ordered the portal to be rebuilt. It turned out, of course, impressive. In addition to the scale, it is impressive, as in other monuments of ancient Samarkand, the rich decoration of the mosque - majolica, carved stone, semiprecious stones. Yes, probably, being in Samarkand, the first thing you need to do is look at Registan. Then you need to see Gur-Emir (the mausoleum of Tamerlane and his family). It would be great to drive further from the center towards Afrasiab (the ancient settlement where Samarkand began) and see the necropolis of Shahi Zinda. But it will be further away, it will take a long time to walk there. But Bibi Khanum is located in the center, quite close to Registan. I think it's interesting and informative to come here and look at another creation by Tamerlane, created with the involvement of talented craftsmen from India, Iran, Khorezm and the Golden Horde.

A medieval monument built either by Amir Timur himself in memory of his beloved wife, or by his wife Bibi Khanum in honor of the victorious return of the commander from We will never know about this in India. These are the two versions that exist about the construction of this magnificent ensemble. In the courtyard of the mosque, you can see a stone stand for the Koran of Usman (the world's oldest Koran is a manuscript on buckskin parchment, a shrine now kept in the Hazrati Imam complex in Tashkent.

Bibi‑Khanum is a place with a powerful historical energy and impressive architecture. Despite its incomplete preservation, it gives an idea of the greatness of the Tamerlane era and the skill of medieval architects. I recommend visiting Samarkand as part of the itinerary, but be prepared for the fact that this is not a perfectly restored object, but a living monument with a history of destruction and rebirth.

I believe that there are wonders of the world hidden in Uzbekistan, there are not 7 of them at all. The entrance alone already contains something intimate and unusual. Not everyone will be able to climb up these stairs in one go. About Bibikhanum, I can say that it's better to see it once than to read a review and look at a photo, since I even look at my photos, but in life everything is much, much more beautiful. And most importantly, everything is practically an ensemble in different styles, starting from the door, the architectural pattern... I don't know how to write clever words, even the aura itself is special there.
