Medieval castle, small. Nothing compared to Ivangorod!! That's where the greatness and power are!💪😁 You especially realize this when you stand in the middle between them. But the castle is well worth a visit, inside there is a museum, quite interesting, but a little empty. You can climb the tower, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Narva and Ivangorod!

Good afternoon to all)! I have never been inside Narva Castle, but once I saw it from Russia and this sight made an indelible impression on me ... It's not difficult to get to the observation point, it's enough to be on the banks of the Narva River in Ivangorod, climb a little higher up the slope and you will see one of the most impressive historical landscapes on the border of the two countries. There is another option, which is the most suitable, in my opinion) - to visit the Ivangorod fortress and from its walls explore both the castle itself and another country, with a different way of life and in general - a completely different one, I will not delve into politics at all, because I don't even want to)... From the walls of the Ivangorod fortress, Narva Castle appears in all its monumentality. Its powerful walls and the famous Long Herman Tower are clearly outlined against the sky. It is interesting to observe how the Narva Castle "talks" with the Ivangorod fortress across the river. They are like two guardians of different eras and cultures, because Narva Castle is a Gothic architecture, the influence of the Livonian Order, Western European style, and Ivangorod Fortress is an ancient Russian tradition of fortification, conciseness and functionality. Even without visiting the inner halls, you can feel the atmosphere of the place. The Narva River here is not just a water barrier - it becomes a kind of time axis connecting different epochs. Looking at the castle, you can't help but imagine how the knights of the Livonian Order walked along these walls, how cannon shots sounded during sieges, how flags over the towers changed over the centuries. The view is especially impressive in good weather, when visibility is excellent, you can see the details - narrow loopholes, remnants of decorative elements, stairs along the walls. This landscape remains in the memory for a long time. It arouses not just aesthetic admiration, but a desire to learn more about the history of the place. Now I am determined to cross the bridge one day, buy a ticket and walk through the halls of Narva Castle to look at the castle from the inside, from the height of its towers, and perhaps see the Ivangorod fortress in response, as the defenders of the castle saw it centuries ago. I definitely recommend anyone who finds themselves in these parts to take the time to contemplate this architectural duo. Even without visiting the castle itself, this place gives deep impressions and food for thought about how closely history, architecture and geography are intertwined! A brief historical summary. Narva Castle (or Herman's Castle) has a rich and eventful history: XIII century. The Danes, who then owned Northern Estonia, erected the first wooden fortifications on this site. Under their protection, a settlement began to grow, which later became the city of Narva. The beginning of the XIV century. The construction of the stone fortress began. At the same time, the first part of the Long Herman tower appeared. The year is 1347. The Danish king sold these lands to the Livonian Order and a new stage of the castle's development began. The year is 1492. The Ivangorod fortress was built on the opposite bank of the river, so two powerful outposts began to "guard" the Narva River. XVI–XVII centuries. The castle changed hands several times, was under the rule of Russia and Sweden, was constantly being completed and strengthened, bastions and additional walls appeared. The year is 1704. During the Northern War, the castle was conquered by Russian troops under the leadership of Peter I. XX century. During the Second World War, the castle was severely damaged, but was later partially restored. Today. The Narva Museum is located in the Long Herman tower and other parts of the castle, where you can get acquainted with the centuries-old history of this place.

Narva Castle, or Hermann's Castle, was founded in 1256 by the Danes as a wooden fortification. At the beginning of the 14th century, the castle was rebuilt from stone, the first mention of the stone fortress dates back to 1329. In 1346, the castle was sold to the Livonian Order, which significantly expanded it and built the 51-meter Tall Hermann tower. Over the centuries, Narva Castle came under the rule of the Swedes, then Russia, and in the 20th century it suffered destruction in the Second World War. After 1947, restoration began, with major work taking place in the 1950s and 1980s. In 2020, a major reconstruction of the east wing, where the museum and exhibitions are now located, was completed. Today, the castle is open to visitors, open from 10:00 to 18:00, entrance is paid. In one of the episodes ("Brotherhood in Arms") of the sixth season of "Killing Force", filming took place in Narva, including at the castle. The main character, Plakhov— arrives there in connection with a murder investigation related to this city. Porechenkov's hero is traveling with him, with whom Khabensky had already served at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater by that time. The famous Estonian actor Kirill Kyaro played a small role.
