From what remains of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, one can only imagine how majestic and beautiful it once was. Even now, the preserved architecture and mosaics are impressive and truly fascinating in places. But most of all, this place makes you think. Today, the church is no longer perceived only as a landmark, but rather as a reminder of what war can lead to and how easily even great buildings and cultural heritage can be destroyed. For me, it wasn't so much about architecture as it was about reflection.

The free attraction has preserved traces of the bombing, and next to it there are two more new buildings (one of which is under renovation, July 2025).The hotel has a souvenir sales department. In front of the church, you can often see a large music box playing with manual controls. It looks great, and it's worth a look when you walk by.

In fact, there are two churches located here. The first, the memorial church in honor of the victories of Kaiser Wilhelm I, was built in 1891-1895, and destroyed after the bombing on November 23, 1943. After the end of World War II, the ruins wanted to be demolished, but after the protests of the townspeople they were left, mothballed, and a modern Gedechtniskirche (Church of Memory) was built nearby, which can be called an architectural masterpiece of the second half of the XX century. The new church was consecrated before Christmas 1961.
