Gorgeous building, awesome wrought iron staircase. Interesting exhibitions. The only thing is that each exhibition stands alone, but it occupies literally one or two rooms... The staff is very friendly.

The Vitebsk Art Museum is imbued with a strong dislike for art. Firstly, as many have written above, there is a strange and frightening admission policy. "We don't have a main exhibition, but there are 2 temporary exhibitions that are kind of permanent, but these are separate tickets," the employee said. Well, he can make a normal exposition out of what is there (a few works, mostly from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries + works by Yudel Moiseevich Pan) ... Secondly, such a display of works is an absolute disrespect for the creations. A small room of Russian art, paintings on top of each other, there is little free space between the frames, there is nowhere for the eye to rest. My favorite is, of course, the chair blocking Kramskoy's painting. There is no explanatory text, although I remember the Smolensk Art Museum, where they made a small text for each collection and where these paintings came from — it's interesting and inspiring to view the works. I listened out of the corner of my ear to what the guide was telling me (it was hard not to, since we were in the same tiny room). Her story was jerky, very fragmentary, which is why there is absolutely no understanding and feeling that the employee is well acquainted with these particular works. Just general facts about famous artists. It is difficult to get closer to art in this place.

I visited the collection of Russian paintings - a small room with 20 works that are crammed on the wall. The paintings, although they belong to the brush of famous artists, but most of them look like their unsuccessful paintings, there is nothing special about them. It's uncomfortable to be in the museum, there are caretakers everywhere and they make sure that no one gawks at unpaid paintings for free! Although, as for me, the prices that are now in the museum are clearly too much. You can see a lot more in other regional museums for the same money. But even if the tickets were cheaper, I'm not sure it would make sense to come here.
