Her full official name sounds proud - "U nescladovae", that is, "U non-tax". Only Belarusians have it, the twenty-second in the alphabet. In fact, this is the local equivalent of the English "W", only thinner and more economical in terms of hardware for perpetuation in the monument. To be honest, the monument is completely useless from a practical point of view: you can't sit on it (it's slippery); it doesn't shelter you from the rain (it's small); it doesn't help you learn the alphabet...But! It is precisely in this absurdity that genius lies. We are used to the monuments "Airplane monument", "Tractor monument" or "Lenin, who is everywhere". And here it's an abstraction. The monument to the letter "Y" in Polotsk is the king of architectural minimalism. It's standing there, rusting, the metal is covered in places with a noble patina, read rust, for some reason tourists hug it, and it's incredibly cute. And the selfie is unique against the background of an object that could just as easily be mistaken for a letter, a coat of arms, or an unsuccessful street lamp project.
