Two symmetrical tall towers in the style of Stalinist classicism greet travelers arriving in Minsk at the railway station. The architect, Boris Rubanenko from Leningrad, freely combines elements of Baroque, late classicism and, what is not typical of the style, Art Deco in his project. There's even a little bit of Gothic. The houses were compiled, but they were very beautiful. It was supposed to be pompous, but it turned out quite normally, but quite festive, majestic, if you can say so. Interestingly, during excavations before the start of construction, it was in this place that the remains of an old wooden gate were found, through which people entered the city a long time ago for many centuries. In our time of skyscrapers, towers do not seem huge or bulky. It is quite a cozy and beautiful architecture of a cozy and beautiful city.

The two towers on the Forecourt are the main symbol of the city. After the Great Patriotic War, Minsk was rebuilt from the ruins. Two symmetrical towers on both sides of Kirov Street have become the hallmark of the city. The long twin five-storey buildings along Bobruiskaya Street seem to indicate: here it is, the entrance to the capital of Belarus! It is not surprising that the towers received the unofficial name "Gates of Minsk" 😎 Both towers are residential, connected to five-storey buildings. The railroad workers were the first to settle in them. Back then, many apartments were communal, but with separate bathrooms, an extensive kitchen, spacious rooms, and high ceilings. Contemporaries could only envy the happy newcomers of these houses. In the 50s of the last century, they used hot water, which they supplied to their boiler taps (though only two days a week), as well as such benefits of civilization as steam heating and a garbage chute! The towers and five-storey houses are richly decorated: national ornaments, Slutsk belts, bison. Even bas-reliefs depicting a steam locomotive and the inscription "Stalin" have been preserved on the five-story buildings. The twin Towers are architectural monuments of national significance and are included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus. On December 8, 1992, the "Gates of Minsk" were "registered" on a 200-ruble banknote. It was the first to depict the architectural heritage of the country, rather than "bunnies". On January 1, 2001, the banknote was withdrawn from circulation.
