You get inspired by the history of this place, strangely, but you get a sense of strength and tranquility, and the photos turn out to be very colorful. At the time of my visit, a wedding was being photographed, a charming bride against the background of walls and bright green grass, this is an amazing contrast. You can climb the walls by stairs and see the sights from above, in the middle of the exposition there is a museum of artifacts with an imitation of the camp. Along the walls, neat paths and an alley of fragrant roses, the combination of the tenderness of these flowers and the harsh centuries-old stone leave a unique impression of visiting the monument to the history of Georgia.

Gonio Fortress is one of the most ancient and well—preserved fortresses in Georgia, located 15 km from Batumi. Tourists highly appreciate the historical value of the fortress, the wealth of archaeological finds and the atmosphere of antiquity that is felt when visiting. There is a museum with exhibits from the Roman era, preserved ancient fortress walls and towers. The entrance fee is inexpensive (about GEL 3-10), the territory is well maintained, there are paths and greenery. Some visitors note that the fortress is interesting for lovers of history and archeology, although part of the square seems to be empty, and the object is more impressive to trained tourists with imagination. In general, Gonio Fortress is a great place for fans of ancient structures and the history of the region.

We took a taxi from Batumi (there and back) to see the fortress. Majestic. The walls, the towers, everything is inspired by the centuries-old past. There is a museum on site. Archaeological excavations are underway. There are benches for sitting and relaxing. There is a place at the entrance to the fortress where you can drink cold water. A modern path has already been built in the middle, which is decorated with kiwi trees growing along the edges. Entrance is paid. We stayed in the fortress for a little over an hour. We were in the afternoon. Very hot. I think it's better to visit in the evening.

I am impressed by the ancient structures, and this fortress is actually the oldest building I have visited. I liked that in addition to the ancient walls, the fortress has something to see and where to take photos - they recreated a Roman barracks, siege guns and a chariot, as well as a tent camp. Excavations were carried out in the fortress about 10 years ago. For the most part, the pits and foundations of buildings excavated by archaeologists are not particularly impressive - since they are in the open air, their edges have crumbled, and the pits themselves are overgrown with grass and bushes. It looks a little sloppy, and the imitation of violent activity looks very cute - abandoned wheelbarrows and tools, as if the archaeologists had just left for lunch. Although the year when the excavations were carried out is written on the stands. Funny))) But I was really impressed by the clay pipes of the ancient Roman sewer system. The walls themselves are thick, with loopholes, you can also climb them and enter the towers, And there is also an interesting exposition of antiquities in the local (on the territory of the fortress), albeit a small museum.

A well-preserved Byzantine fortress of the 2nd century, there is a reconstruction of the camp and the life of the soldiers. There are explanatory signs everywhere, so you can do without a guide. There are facilities on site (toilet, drinking fountain). It is convenient to get there yourself from Batumi

It's a very interesting place. Especially if you go with a guide. Admission costs GEL 10. There is a museum on site, an improvised legionnaires' camp, and you can even take a photo in armor. There is also a free toilet.

A very interesting place to visit. However, the QR code for the audio guide was expired, so it was not possible to listen to the story. But there were tablets with some facts about the history of the fortress. In general, I liked it. The views are very beautiful. For those who are interested in history and archeology, that's it!

It's a very beautiful place, we came in out of idle curiosity, and ended up wandering around the fortress for several hours. Inside, in addition to the walls and towers, you can explore picturesque alleys, archaeological exhibits, ancient ballistae and catapults. We were satisfied

It's a very interesting and unusual place. It's nice that our history is being preserved. And they maintain her condition. We were on a weekday, there weren't really any people, so it was great to take a walk! It was easy to get from Batumi and back too. By 16 bus round trip. The lining of old guns, tents and armor was beautifully made.

It is a very interesting place, I definitely recommend everyone to come and see it. In my opinion, it is one of the best attractions in the region. Excellent preservation, mementos for each significant object and just a beautiful view will not leave any lover of ancient architecture indifferent. Entrance is paid - 10 GEL per adult, which is quite reasonable to maintain such a place that remembers almost the last 2000 years

A fortress wall that can be climbed in many places, niches, lizards on the walls, excavations, shields, swords and a chariot where you can take pictures! Ancient plumbing, sauna... I recommend you to visit! Fortunately, it is not far from the center of Batumi and on the way to Sarpi!

Gonio Fortress is not far from Batumi. It is a monumental monument of ancient architecture, one of the most ancient stone buildings on the territory of Georgia. The fortress dates back to the 1st century AD and the era of Roman rule in the Caucasus. To this day, the stone walls and towers, the pattern of streets, and the foundations of buildings have been well preserved. Gonio-Apsaros Fortress is open for inspection as an interesting museum of ancient history. Gonio-Apsaros fortress consists of a powerful square of stone walls with towers and a central entrance. The total length of the fortress walls is about 1 kilometer, the height of the walls is 5 meters. Initially, dozens of towers guarded the perimeter of the walls, some of them were destroyed, and 18 towers have survived to this day. According to legend, the grave of the Apostle Matthew, one of the disciples of Christ, is located in the Gonio fortress. The grave of the Apostle Matthew has become another place of constant visit. Interestingly, Kyrgyzstan (a place near Issyk-Kul) and Italy (Sorrento) are fighting for the right to be called the burial of the apostle. However, it is not possible to verify all three alleged graves: the church has imposed an official ban, fearing religious conflicts. Today, a gazebo has been built next to the sarcophagus, in which candles and flowers can be placed. Surprisingly, the grave has never been looted, even by Turks who preach Islam.

The fortress is interesting from a historical point of view. There are a lot of restrictions. There are barriers on the wall, you can't get to photogenic places. On the site of the excavation. It looks like they're not digging anymore. A stylized Roman camp, heavily stylized. There are not many historical artifacts in the museum. The coins were generally taken away "for restoration." There is a fountain with water, a toilet. 10 GEL is too much.

The territory is well maintained. Entrance is paid. There may be changes in operation at the gate that do not correspond to the specified time on the site (this may be an isolated case). Entrance is paid, you can take a guide. There is a well-renovated toilet on site. There are places where you can climb to the top, but there are limiters, you got up - great and go down right away. Therefore, look at everything from the bottom first.

The fortress of the 1st century!!! The very thought of it makes you feel like you've entered a completely different world. And thick walls, huge gates, and legionnaires' armor only enhance this feeling. There is a shop on site that sells Internet souvenirs that can't be found anywhere else. I was interested in the version about Matthew's burial here. I couldn't get here for Sunday service. I saved it for next time.

The fortress of the 1st century, but the walls can be seen that they were reconstructed. Inside there is a very beautiful and well-groomed territory, roses are blooming, but there is nothing else. You can walk around the perimeter, climb the walls. There are excavations of very old walls. And a very old plumbing system. On the territory of the fortress there is a symbolic grave of the apostle Matthew, the one from whom the Gospel is one of the 4. He preached in these places. Symbolic - because according to several sources, he was buried on the territory of the Gonio fortress. Opening hours are 10-18, in summer from 10-19. An adult ticket is 8 lari, up to 16 years old - 2 lari.
