An ancient and beautiful monastery. A real architectural monument. The interiors and stone carvings are particularly interesting. The views are magnificent. The road is excellent and there is a cafe nearby where a good barbecue is not expensive.

A beautiful ancient monastery (968), which, like Sanahin, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. Amazing view from the mountain! The famous Armenian poet of the 18th century, Sayat Nova, was exiled here. In S. Parajanov's film "The Color of pomegranate" you can see the footage shot in Haghpat, when it comes to this period of the poet's life.

A wonderful monument of the Middle Ages in Armenia, almost on the border with Georgia, it was all a single kingdom of ruler Tamara. All the numerous buildings of the monastery are open to the public, it is a whole complex. In addition to architectural beauty, there are murals and frescoes, which are usually not found in Armenian monuments of the Middle Ages. The monastery is located on an elevation. The views are wonderful, they take your breath away. There is always a fresh wind blowing here and the heat is not so felt. They sell various souvenirs down by the road.
