It was no coincidence that we ended up in this small hotel complex in the wooded mountains 12 km from Brasov: our busy summer Dracula tour of Transylvania began with a stay in the castle. We were given an improved (by local standards) de luxe room in a detached house. Furniture and plumbing, obviously, have known better days, but if you don't get too picky and don't get hung up on the little things (we were, say, unlucky with an electronic key that stubbornly refused to open the door even after replacing the card), it is almost ideal for spending a couple of days in the summer or a week in the ski season. Up the beautiful stairs or by the elevator of the main castle there is a spacious restaurant with high–quality local cuisine and access to the terrace. In the hall, you can sit by the fireplace, where a "skin" bear will helpfully crouch at your feet. Down the steps to the "dungeon" – SPA (it didn't work out) and the torture room, where big originals arrange bachelor parties, and the kids, getting into a rage, are ready to shorten their mother's head, who settled on the torture bed for a photo shoot. The girls at the reception will be happy to tell you about this, kindly allowing you to try yourself as an executioner or victim, and jokingly offering to do a medieval "manicure". At the same time, it would be good to have not only iron nerves and a stable psyche, but also good health, since in case of problems, a doctor by med. insurance (in our case, by calling the insurance company) does not get here, at least on a summer evening. As a result, Russian-speaking Lyudmila, who works both at the reception and at the spa, turns into a witch (and in this role she is great!) and, squatting down, tries to treat a swollen limb with warming passes according to a Japanese technique she knows. Thanks a lot to the healer for that! And even if the painful swelling of the shin did not go away, but such attention was very pleasant and touching.
The hotel honestly fulfills the stated 4**** and for my part, I would add one star for the picturesqueness, the local atmosphere (including a night campfire with fried sausages, local palenka and the indispensable tales of Dracula), for courtesy, friendliness, but most importantly – for the decency and impeccable honesty of the staff: we Upon written request, we confirmed that when cleaning the room, we found an iPad forgotten in the bedside table (we discovered its loss only in Moscow a few days after returning from Romania) and are ready to forward it.
NB! And don't put too much trust in reviews like "it's +34 degrees outside, and the temperature in the room is excellent." By all means take warm clothes: at night it is noticeably cold in the mountains, even in the sultry August, and during the day the temperature in Poiana Brasov (unlike Bucharest) never rises above 25 degrees, as the local "draculologists" themselves say.
