The historical Mosque-i Kebir (Great Mosque) in Kayseri is one of the oldest and most important structures of the city, built by the ruler of Danishmend, Melik Mehmet Gazi in 1135. The mosque, located near the Grand Bazaar, was repaired in 1206 and renovated in 1723 after the earthquake of 1716. It is also famous for the rumor that 7 bricks donated by an old woman were used in its construction.  Historical Features of Kayseri Mosque-i Kebir: Date of construction: 1135 (Danishmendli period). Founder: Melik Mehmet Gazi, the ruler of Danishmendli. Other Names: Ulu Mosque, Sultan Mosque. Location: Kayseri city center, next to the Grand Bazaar. Repair Date: It was repaired by Yağıbasanoğlu Muzaffereddin Mahmud in 1206. Earthquake and Renovation: After the earthquake in 1716, it was repaired by Hacı Halil Efendi in 1723. The Story of 7 Bricks: During the construction of the mosque, 7 bricks, which are said to have been donated by an old woman for use in construction and placed on the mosque wall, are one of the spiritual stories of the structure.
