The State Russian Museum is an absolute must-visit in St. Petersburg. It offers an incredible collection of Russian art, from classical icons to impressive works from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The variety and depth of the exhibitions give you a real understanding of the history and evolution of Russian art. The building itself is beautiful and well maintained, which makes the whole experience even more special. The galleries are spacious, and you can comfortably spend several hours exploring without feeling rushed. If you are interested in art, history, or culture, this museum is definitely worth your time. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

A great place to study Russian art! It contains the world's largest collection of domestic art. Here you can get acquainted with the masterpieces of Russian painting, with the works of great Russian artists, including Aivazovsky, Shishkin, Levitan, Savrasov, Vasnetsov, Bryullov, Repin and many others. The last time I visited the exhibition dedicated to Karl Bryullov and was delighted with the beauty and scale of the exposition. I advise everyone to visit this museum!

Excellent museum, a must see attraction when visiting St. Petersburg. There are a few topics for English speakers who cannot read or speak Russian: №1 The Mikhailovsky Palace like Orsay, Louvre and British Museum is huge. The variety and selection is very interesting. At the start of the gallery there are typical "War" themed paintings which can be a little gruesome, decapitation and dismemberment is depicted. Best to steer children away from some paintings. Fortunately the exhibition changes to other themes quickly, leading to one of the better exhibitions of modern art that I have seen. At least, if not more appealing than the MMA or Guggenheim in NYC. See the photos. Only a complete Philistine will not find something they love in this museum. Expressionism, Objectivism, Abstraction, Cubism-Futurism, Primitivism, Impressionism and Cézannism - a Tour-de-Force through these artistic movements. №2 "The Russian Museum" is not one museum, but many museums. This can lead to confusion when buying a ticket. I would recommend the 700 rouble ticket to the main Mikhailovsky Palace МИХАЙЛОВСКИЙ ДВОРЕЦ only. Check the museum website and you can see the many different ticket types. №3 it is best to purchase tickets in advance online, but I bought mine from the Kassa (cashier). My basic Russian was fully understood. Staff were always helpful. Sometimes you can use overseas issued UNION PAY cards, sometimes not. №4 the sign posts are mostly in Russian (which I can read), but this still didn't prevent me from getting lost. I am still not sure if I saw all the galleries. I would recommend asking for a map. A lot of the display signs are in English. There are QR codes for many paintings: Death of Nero https://rmgallery.ru/en/5241 A nice painting showing "Let he who has not sinned throw the first stone" https://rmgallery.ru/en/648 https://rmgallery.ru/en/665 Other links (can be automatically translated) https://education.rusmuseumpro.ru/our_avantgarde_05 Check Izi.Travel - there is a walking tour There are also impressive collections of fabrics, lacquer work, porcelain and some sculpture. Too much to write about. The Benois Wing is very good too, but I think it would be too much for one visit. 10/10 - world class and excellent value especially compared to the Lourve
