It was very unexpected to meet an American boy scout in the center of Gyumri!

I haven't been there yet. I'm going to - in a week. But I try to read a lot before the trip. Therefore, I was surprised (mildly) by Alexander P.'s review (it is below). And here's what the Gyumrians themselves write about their hero (travelers "for an hour" should read in advance or ... not rush to conclusions): "Monument to the pioneer Vahan Cheraz, the politician of the First Armenian Republic. Vahan Cheraz, a well-known Armenian public and political figure, a famous athlete in Armenia, was one of the first Armenian football players, playing for the Tork team from Constantinople in the early twentieth century. . In 1920, at the invitation of Armenian Minister of Education Nikol Aghbalyan, Vahan Cheraz moved from Constantinople to Alexandropol (now Gyumri) in order to develop sports in his homeland. At that time, some of the orphans who survived the genocide were concentrated in Alexandropol... He was one of the founders of the scout organization in 1920-1927. He was involved in collecting and patronizing survivors of the Armenian Genocide and the creation of scout and sports groups in Gyumri. He was shot during the Stalinist repressions."
