The Vatican Museums are one of the largest collections of paintings. While in Rome and even passing through, you can arrange a wonderful evening with a visit to this treasury of world art. The fact is that experiencing difficulties with the huge influx of tourists, museums are open until late, and you have a unique opportunity to see and consider everything calmly and without haste. With Irina, the guide, we went through this route (now again). The most iconic parts are, of course, the Sistine Chapel, where a new head of the church is chosen at a meeting (conclave) of cardinals and, according to tradition, signal smoke is lit from a chimney above the Vatican, as well as a 120-meter-long Gallery of Maps with its painted walls and ceiling, which depicts maps of various regions of Italy and frescoes by famous artists. We have heard many interesting stories from Irina's story. And the strongest impression was the fact that in the Catholic tradition, unlike Orthodoxy, the forbidden fruit that Eve gave Adam in paradise was not an apple! The frescoes of famous artists of the Middle Ages depict the leaves of another southern tree - figs! It will take a long time to visit the museums - not an hour or two, and therefore a visit here is unlikely to be the last. It is best to visit it after 19.00 and alone. A walk through the halls of the museums ends at the famous and equally impressive Bramante Staircase, the peculiarity of which is that people descending and ascending it do not intersect.
