The road to the fortress is constantly uphill, if you are going to visit, then choose the weather cooler, walk uphill from the ticket office where they sell tickets, take a slow step for probably 30 minutes (definitely not stuck). Be sure to take water with you, and on the way back you can collect it from the spring in the fortress. The feeling of touching a great story after a visit.

The Anakopian Fortress is a place that must be visited when traveling around Abkhazia. The beginning of its construction is the 2nd-4th century. It flourished, withstood the onslaught of the Roman legions, resisted the Byzantine and Turkish troops. The atmosphere of the fortress preserves the history of thousands of years. The fortress tower offers an unforgettable view of the mountains, the sea, and New Athos. The ascent to the fortress is of medium difficulty. Having gone up there with a tour group, you must definitely return to stay there for an unlimited time. And I don't want to leave there. Also on the territory of the fortress there is a temple of the first Christians, the chapel of the Iverian Mary the Mother of God - a favorite place of pilgrims. You can put a candle on and drink water from the well, which many consider healing. Having visited this place once, you will definitely want to come back again. The entrance fee is 200 rubles.

When you are in New Athos, I recommend climbing the Anakopian fortress.If you are old, then you can drive to the beginning of the fortress by car. You can climb the fortress to the mountain in two ways, one traditional on the road or along the paths (you will climb 2 times faster) but you need to have health. At the top of the reconstructed tower there is a wonderful view of New Athos and the surrounding area. Also visit the ruins of a Greek temple (very ancient).There is also an inexhaustible well, it is a little inconvenient to draw water, but it is delicious and cool.Have a good rest.

It's an interesting place, but like everywhere else in Abkhazia, there are not enough investments. It's really long and hard to climb, and there are no benches or water to drink along the way.. Top views are the main bonus, fantastic 👍🏻
